Business and Human Rights Cluster
   BHR Cluster: News & Activities
Determining the human rights responsibilities of business has become one of the most pressing issues in the field of business ethics. It is an issue that poses significant theoretical and practical challenges for scholars, managers, investors, government and civil society. For Canada, a world leader in mining, the need for research and dialogue in exploring human rights responsibilities of business is apparent. The extractive industries in general and mining in particular have generated a significant proportion of human rights complaints resulting from corporate activities worldwide. Not surprisingly, given the Canadian presence in the industry, a substantial proportion of those complaints have been directed at Canadian companies operating abroad.

The Business and Human Rights (BHR) Cluster:

  • Connects scholars, managers, investors, government and civil society with each other to promote research and dialogue in the area;
  • Organizes Business and Human Rights-themed events
  • Provides resources to support research; and
  • Builds capacity, disseminates research, and promotes dialogue through the Business and Human Rights website portal (currently under development).

To join the Business and Human Rights Cluster, please JOIN CBERN or contact Hilary Martin, CBERN Research and Outreach Coordinator.
