CBERN Business & Human Rights Symposium Feb 25-28, 2010
CBERN hosted a Business and Human Rights Symposium over the final weekend of February 2010. Twenty-three Canadian and international participants gathered together for a four-day roundtable discussion that was generated from the topics of 18 participant papers drafted specifically for the event. Participants found the quality of the presentations very high, and the format of the symposium very productive.

The participants had all read the papers ahead of time, and were well-prepared to contribute to the discussion. Because of the particular expertise of all participants in the field of human rights, the commentary was both knowledgeable and insightful. The tone was collegial throughout, and the symposium was very enjoyable as well as productive.

The papers generated for the symposium will be revised by their authors based on the group discussions and written commentaries. All will be published as the formal proceedings of this event by Edward Elgar. Most, if not all, participants will also be submitting their revised paper to the special issue of Business Ethics Quarterly dedicated to this topic and guest-edited by the symposium’s leaders.

The Business and Human Rights Symposium was sponsored by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), Export Development Canada (EDC), and York University’s Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies.
